I was diagnosed with hemochromatosis in 1996. The serum ferritin count when I was diagnosed was 8,290 – an astronomical level. I had weekly phlebotomies for about a year and then every two weeks. It took about three and a half years for my ferritin levels to come into range and my liver function tests to return to normal. Eventually a pattern emerged requiring a phlebotomy every eight to ten weeks. After being on this pattern for about 10 years my iron levels ceased to rise. And I did not require a phlebotomy for about 4 years. After a lengthy stay in hospital for unrelated issues in Dec. 2011/Jan. 2012, I now require phlebotomies again, but no regular pattern has emerged. I am interested to know if anyone has had such a prolonged period (4 yrs.) of not needing plebotomies.

We all know how tough de-ironing is.
It may be possible that you took a medication for reflux, proton inhibitor, which indeed lowers ones iron levels.how it works i don’t know, but it came up in the dutch hemochromatosis monthly last year.
